The Gazebo, Hempstead, Texas
Veterans in uniforms, parents and teenagers, and families with small children watched and listened as a community paid their respects to its fallen heroes. Our sincere thanks are given to our speakers Mayor Wolfe, Sr. of Hempstead, Mayor Jackson of Prairie View, Fr. Bob Merrill and Russell Bayh of St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church. We listened in amazement to the beautiful patriotic songs sung by Marcy and Floyd Richard and Bryce Louviere of the WHS Choir. Randallyn Kelso and Ashley Burton, Seniors at WHS, gave flawless performances on percussion and bugle and brought tears to our eyes as taps were played. The 11th Texas Cavalry commanded our attention with their 21 gun salute using black powder muskets. Life Scout Mason Seets, Troop 108, concluded the ceremonial events with a stirring Flag Retirement Ceremony. From the gazebo decorated with red, white and blue bunting to the WWII era Jeeps, and the Civil War Display by Danial Lisarelli, it was a picture of small town America at its best.
